My Favorite Place: Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. I have visited Rocky Mountain National Park twice in the last four years.  I went with family in the summer and friends in the winter.  With my family I was able to walk with heard of elk above the tree line where the wind blew so hard it almost knocked us over.  At lower elevations we found glistening lakes tucked between towering peaks.  In the winter my buddies and I trekked through two feet of snow while the woods surrounding us were still and silent.  Waiting for us in our cedar cabin was hot chocolate and a warm fire.  Rocky Mountain National Park is stunning at all times of the year and will always leave me in awe.

  1. Oh my gosh, Braden, that is really cool: ELK! I saw beautiful eagles when I was in the Rockies last, but I've never seen elk except in a zoo or wilderness park, not out in the real wild. There are LOTS of deer species in India (and deer will show up in the stories you are reading in this class)... but there are no Indian deer as big as the elk, because the elk is the biggest of all the deer species. Wikipedia is a great place to learn about animals, so here is the Chital Deer, a very pretty deer which is distinctively Indian!

  2. Hi Braden,

I can tell from your intro and this that you are a very outdoor-sy adventurous person. It much be so fun to visit such a beautiful place twice. Personally, I am not a very outdoor-sy person. I cannot deal with the heat, bugs, dirty (I am a bit of a clean freak), and potential dangerous animals. It because I am anemic so activities like this strains me but it is so neat that you love it! My sister is an outdoor-sy person too.

  3. Hey Braden! I love hiking and climbing and being outdoors! I have been all over the Rocky's but I have never actually been to Rocky Mountain National Park oddly enough. It is remarkable to be able to see that type of landscape covered in snow and ice in the winter and then see it covered in beautiful flowers and green grass in the summer.
